The Chopping Dead Hatchet League Ends with a Thrilling Championship Match
Six weeks ago, our hatchet throwers entered a world overrun by zombies. Last night, only one survivor remained.
Season 2 of the Slashers Hatchet League, The Chopping Dead, officially came to an end with one of the most exciting tournament nights we’ve ever hosted.
As one of the most unique opportunities for competitive axe throwing in Orange County, our hatchet league brings together throwers of all skill levels for weekly competition, themed challenges, and a chance to earn their place among the best axe throwers in the region. Inspired by the hit zombie television series The Walking Dead, The Chopping Dead challenged competitors to battle through six weeks of league play before facing off in a high-stakes double-elimination tournament.
The Tournament Begins
Players arrived to find a special addition waiting for them: the RIP Board.
As competitors were eliminated from the tournament, they wrote their names on a tombstone-shaped board, marking the end of their championship hopes. But in true zombie fashion, death wasn’t always permanent.
The first eight players eliminated from the tournament earned one final chance to rise from the grave in our special Zombie Round. These eliminated throwers returned to compete for the title of The Zombie, awarded to the player with the highest score among the undead competitors.
Aaron clawed his way to victory and claimed the title of Super Zombie.
Each Challenger Was a Battle
With every member of our league improving so much over the past 5 weeks, each challenger was a battle. The tournament featured several unforgettable moments throughout the night.
One of the most intense came during a matchup between Marshall and Andreau. After ten frames, the competitors were deadlocked at 50 points each, forcing a kill-shot tiebreaker.
With the pressure on, Andreau delivered the winning throw to advance.
The dramatic victory proved to be only a preview of what was to come.
Championship Finals
The championship match featured two of the league’s strongest competitors: Scott and Andreau.
As the match entered the final frames, Andreau appeared to have the advantage. But in the 9th frame, Scott made a bold call and drilled a kill shot, tying the match at 50 points apiece and setting up a winner-take-all final frame.
In the 10th frame, Andreau responded with a bullseye.
Scott now faced a difficult decision. He could play it safe and throw for a bullseye to force a kill-shot tiebreaker, or he could go for glory.
Choosing the riskier option, Scott called a kill shot.
The entire venue watched as the axe flew toward the target.
The throw missed by less than an inch.
With that, Andreau secured the victory, becoming the Chopping Dead Champion and earning his place as a two-time Slashers Hatchet League Champion.
