What are the league rules?
A: In addition to our venue rules, there are a few additoinal rules specific to league nights:
- Match= 10 frames. 1 throw per person per frame. Competitors will alternate between throws on the same target. Matches will use a standard 6 ring target.
- Scores, Wins, Loses, and Kill Shots will be recorded by the league member and must be turned in after their 4th match.
- Throws must be between the 12’ and 15’ fault lines.
- Before the start of each match, each player can have one ‘one for fun’ throw.
- If an axe does not stick in the target or misses the target completely, the thrower must mark it as a 0. They do not get to throw again until their next turn.
- Score the Majority of the Blade. The valid scoring area of the axe includes the bit up to the front of the eye but not past it. You will score the ring that the majority of the axe blade is touching. If it looks to be an even split, on any one side of the axe, you will get the higher of the two scores.
- After a throw, the thrower must inspect the target, call out the score to which the competitor must agree, before the axe is removed and the score is inputted.
- If there is a disagreement between the thrower and their competitor, the thrower can call for Judgement. ONE person in the next lane can become a Judge. The Judge has final say.
- Stepping over the 12’ line or removing an axe before the score has been confirmed by the competitor will result in a fault.
- If a fault occurs, a point will be subtracted from the score for that frame.
- Kill shots
- Kill shots must be called in advance by yelling ‘Kill Shot’
- The competitor must echo back ‘kill shot’ to confirm. After a kill shot has been called, it can not be taken back.
- The blade only has to touch (not majority rule) to score the 8 points
- If the axe lands anywhere else on the target, and does not touch the kill shot, the score is a 0.
- Only can call a max of 2 kill shots per match.
- Tie breakers: Sudden death round. Closest next throw to a kill shot.
- No heckling or distracting during someone’s throw.
- Axe or target malfunctions will be ruled as interference and will allow for a re-throw.
- Be a noble opponent and show good sportsmanship.
Can I bring my own axe?
A: Yes! League members may bring in their own throwing hatches as long as it follows the specifications:
- Max Weight – 3lbs/1.36kg total
- Max Length – 19in/48.26cm (as measured from the top of the eye)
- Max Bit – 4in/10.16cm (as measured toe to heel in a straight line
- Axes may only have one sharp bit.
- Axe Heads must be held securely to the handle.
Can I just come to watch?
A: Why just watch? Have fun and throw some axes! Everyone entering, including spectators, is required to purchase a ticket.
Do I only get to throw axes?
A: Yes, at this time, we only offer leagues for hatchet throwing. But during free play, you are welcome to throw our big axe or knives.
What is the minimum age for participants?
A: Our venue is rated PG-13. Children under 13 may have difficulty throwing axes safely and may find the atmosphere too scary. Guests aged 13-17 are welcome to throw axes with a parent or guardian’s permission.
What is Battle For Beer?
A: At the end of each league night, all league members can compete for a free drink. The second-place finisher in the previous B4B gets to pick next week’s battle game. Players are put in random order and lined up. Each player is given one throw to complete the objective. If successful, they move to the back of the line. If they miss or drop, they are eliminated. The final one standing gets a free drink coupon.
What is a perfect game?
A: A perfect game on a 6 ring target is 64 points. 8 bullseyes (6 points each) and 2 kill shots (8 points each). If a perfect game is thrown during league nights or in a tournament, you win a prize, and your picture goes on our ‘perfect game’ board!
What should I wear?
A: Closed-toe shoes are required. If a camper does not come wearing closed-toe shoes, we have some available for rent with the purchase of our camp socks ($4). We also recommend wearing something you feel comfortable moving and bending down in.
