The Axe-olotls Crown a Champion: Season 3 Hatchet League Recap
Another season has come to an end at Slashers Axe Throwing & Ales, and this one was unlike any before it.
After surviving The Axorcists in Season 1 and The Chopping Dead in Season 2, our league competitors dove into Season 3: The Axe-olotls—a playful horror-inspired twist on the lovable axolotl.
Over six weeks, competitors met every Thursday night to sharpen their skills, improve their averages, and battle for the top seed heading into our double-elimination championship tournament.
For anyone looking for competitive axe throwing in Orange County or an axe throwing league in Costa Mesa, league night continues to be one of the most exciting events we host.
Double-Elimination Championship
The championship tournament featured 24 throwers competing in a seeded double-elimination bracket, meaning every competitor had to lose twice before being eliminated.
Top seed Jared looked dominant early, defeating Lauren, Shana, and eventually reaching the Winner’s Bracket Final where he met Andreau. Andreau handed Jared his first loss of the night with an impressive 57–50 victory, sending Jared into the B Bracket.
Meanwhile, Marshall battled through the B Bracket with wins over Naomi, Lauren, Andy, and eventually Jared to earn a rematch against Andreau in the championship.
Marshall’s comeback was one of the highlights of the evening, proving why a double-elimination tournament always keeps the competition alive until the very end.
In the finals, however, Andreau proved unstoppable.
Needing just one victory as the undefeated finalist, Andreau narrowly defeated Marshall 54–53 in one of the closest matches of the season to claim the Axe-olotls Championship and become our three-time Hatchet League Champion.
The Zombie Bracket
At Slashers, elimination isn’t always the end.
The first twelve competitors eliminated from the championship tournament rose from the dead to compete in our fan-favorite Zombie Bracket—a second tournament where the eliminated battle for one final title.
Doug survived the undead and claimed the honor of The Zombie, proving that sometimes the dead fight the hardest.
