Owners and Creators of Slashers are avid horror movie fans dedicated to bringing year-long horror-themed fun to Orange County through Slashers Axe Throwing & Ales and their escape rooms at Cross Roads Escape Games.
Horror movies and Axes?
Owners and Creators Luke and Madison Rhoades always loved horror movies. Well, Madison loves horror movies, and Luke goes along with it (he’s a good sport).
Nestled in the heart of Southern California’s horror and escape room scene is Cross Roads Escape Games, the first brainchild of the husband-and-wife team. Since its opening in January 2016 in Anaheim, this thrilling venture has captivated countless enthusiasts.
Garnering accolades such as USA Today’s Top 10 Best In The Nation and the prestigious Room Escape Artist’s Golden Lock Award, Cross Roads Escape Games has set a benchmark in immersive entertainment with scary hits like The Hex Room and The Weeping Witch.
Building on this legacy, Luke and Madison embarked on a new adventure, blending the excitement of axe throwing with the immersive flair of theatrical entertainment. In December 2023, Slashers Axe Throwing & Ales opened its doors in Costa Mesa, CA, promising an experience that transcends the ordinary.
Horror Movies
“Once I started getting interested in axe throwing, my first instinct was to combine it with horror movies,” says creator Madison Rhoades. “I love horror movies because they are empowering stories of ordinary people faced with terrifying challenges that they ultimately overcome. Axe throwing made me feel as fearsome as the Final Girls in my favorite films.”
More Than Just Axes
But there’s more to us than axe throwing. Step into our spooky cabin, and you’ll find a beer bar with horror-movie-themed drinks, show moments, and special effects that create an atmosphere that’s both eerie and exhilarating. It’s the perfect place to unwind after an intense throwing session or to simply soak in the vibes of a classic horror movie setting.
Our inspiration
“I see axe throwing the same as I saw escape rooms years ago: a fun and great idea, but lacking in immersive sets and theatrical elements,” says Madison Rhoades. “We plan to take Slashers Axe Throwing & Ales to the same elevated level as Cross Roads Escape Games.”
